How Do You Define Hero?
We started our Civil Rights Movement by asking "What do you think a hero is?" Many students said that a hero was someone who does good in the world, fights for justice and freedom, saves the day like Batman, Superman, etc. At the end our unit, we asked the same question to see how our definition changed. Check out our anchor charts below to see for yourself.

Civil Rights Movement
We have been learning A LOT about the Civil Rights Movement! Be sure to ask you child what they have learned. We have watched primary source videos, interviews, and read quite a few books. Students will be doing some pretty exciting things with technology in the coming weeks as we finish our unit and they complete a project in class. We are hoping to have everything finished in time for awards day at the end of the nine weeks. Check out the Rosa Parks video to see some of the things we've been learning.

Congratulations!
Patrick and Chansen represented our classroom very well in the school-wide spelling bee. Patrick will advance and represent CFG at the Regional Spelling Bee. We couldn't be prouder of these boys!

A New Year and a New Start
A new year always brings with it a clean slate. Many of us set personal goals to improve our overall well-being. It's a great time to review goals with your child as well. Maybe you could encourage them to set some academic goals...spend more time reading, get lost in a few chapter books, encourage them to talk to you about what they are reading. It may be the perfect time to talk with them about what they think they are doing well and maybe what they think they could work a little harder at. I am taking on a few things to better myself as a teacher. Beginning Monday after school I will be taking a Google class being offered by the district. When this class ends I will immediately start another technology class to make the most of the technology I currently have and in prepararation for going 1:1 with devices next school year. Even though it means a very long day for the next twelve weeks and not seeing much of my family on Monday afternoons, I'm excited about all that I will learn and be able to being back into our classroom and teach my kids.
